4.4 The business case for accessibility

Much research has been undertaken on the business case for accessibility, which offers some compelling reasons on why an accessible website is good for your business. Some of the noted benefits include:

  • access to a wider possible pool of customers (persons with disabilities and a huge aging demographic);
  • better placement in search-engine results;
  • visible commitment to social business ethics;
  • increased ease of use (usability) for ALL users; and
  • freedom from bad publicity, particularly as more and more consumers are using social media to comment on organizations whose services don't meet their accessibility needs.
